One of the most popular, and most produced, machines in history, the Hermes Baby was manufactured all across the globe — from the mountains of Switzerland to the foggy British Isles to the tropical forests of Brazil.
Our story focuses on British Typewriters Limited, which secured a contract to produce Hermes Baby clones in 1936. They produced this clone for 25 years, interrupted only by World War 2, and culminating with a takeover by Smith Corona in 1958.
